An outstanding expression showcasing the appeal of great Barossa Shiraz, this Penfolds ‘red winemaking trial’ is so rich, generous and yet refreshing, it’s hard to stop sipping it. The flavours just keep emanating from this deep purple wine, beginning with blackcurrant, then dark cherry, followed by cracked pepper, chocolate and coconut husk. Texturally, it may be fleshy, but it also has an appealingly taut character, with a fine frame of dry tannins on the finish. (Patrick Schmitt MW)
