The team at Berton Vineyards have an amazing CV in winemaking. Hence the wines are superb, and the metal labels are iconic. With grapes sourced from the Mount Lofty range in South Australia, Gundagai in New South Wales and Heathcote in Victoria, this cross-regional blend of Shiraz is serious, affordable and delicious. The wine shows a very deep purple colour and is packed with dark berries and black pepper, with toasty oak overtones. The palate is sweet-fruited, backed by bracing acidity and dense, silky-textured tannins, with warming alcohol, good definition and length. A ‘wow wine’ for almost any grilled meat, but the top choice has to be rib-eye. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
