Tasting notes:

The estate of Pian d’Albola was founded by Ludovico Acciaiuoli in the 15th century. As the male Acciaiuoli line died out, Ascanio Samminiati married Caterina Acciaiuoli. This exquisite wine is named after that Caterina and her patron saint. With a deep ruby-cherry hue, the fruit comprises black cherry, black raspberry and wild strawberry, with accents of cedar wood and milk chocolate, Mid-weight, the palate has crunchy fruit, balanced by brisk acidity and silky tannins. It will match rabbit with tomatoes and pancetta in red wine seasoned with garlic, cinnamon and cloves. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
