Tasting notes:
The medieval village of Castello di Albola sits at the top of the rolling hills of Chianti, in the municipality of Radda-in-Chianti, where about 110ha of vines are cultivated on a property of 900ha, at altitudes of 350m–650m. Elegance is the watchword for the wines of Radda, and Castello di Albola is a fabulous example. Quite deep ruby-garnet in hue, the wine shows pomegranate, cranberry and wild cherry fruit, and an overlay of cigar box and earth with a floral note. Midweight, the juicy palate has very crisp acidity and linen-textured tannins. Allspice and creamy nuances add interest. Sappy on the finish, the wine will work well with leg of suckling pig Maremma-style, with rosemary and fennel seeds. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
