Tasting notes:
In the heart of Tuscany, where the Orcia and Ombrone rivers create beautiful landscapes, is the enchanting medieval Banfi castello high on the hill, set in a 2,830ha estate. The steeply sloping vineyards are on a soil of reddish clay sediments with pebbles and rocks. Vibrant ruby-coloured, the wine has dried cherry, cranberry and bilberry fruit, with accents of smoky oak and lemon zest. Full and rich, but refined, the palate has brisk acidity, dense, satin textured tannins and lovely varietal definition. Lingering, the wine will nicely match Tuscan turkey liver and bacon kebabs, accented with bay leaves. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
