Tasting notes:
The Pioneer is named to commemorate Bill Taylor, who had the foresight to plant Shiraz in the Clare Valley, when most of the vineyards were being planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is this practically perfect wine. Deep ruby coloured, the wine shows blackberry and dark cherry fruits, with violets and forest floor undertones. The flavourful palate is rich and complex, displaying coconut and cashew nuts, accenting the concentrated sweet fruit. Great structure of silky tannins and tangy acidity balance the warm alcohol. Lingering and elegant, the wine is a perfect fit for roast goose. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
