Tasting notes:
Viña Santa Carolina is celebrating its 150th birthday this year and was the first Chilean winery to win an international award, when its Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva de la Familia was recognised at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris. This Gold medal follows the long tradition of well recognised excellence. Quite deep garnet in colour, the aromas show attractive red berry and cherry, then cassis with chocolate and tobacco notes. The sweet fruited palate displays brisk acidity and dense, satin-textured tannins and an earthy nuance showing development. This delicious drink is a good foil for baked chicken with porcini and capers. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
