Tasting notes:
Lowestoft began when Thomas Lowes, a politician with a wide range of financial interests, including banking, horse racing and cricket, bought land and developed vineyards near Hobart. Now owned by the Fogarty family, who established roots in Tasmania in the 1800s, the wines are truly delectable. This example, made from various parcels on the estate, shows a mid-ruby colour with a cherry-hued rim, and lovely red cherry and wild berry fruits with gentle, creamy oak and a floral lift. Dry and mid-weight, the well integrated flavours are nicely framed by racy acidity and linen tannins. Ripe, but not overly alcoholic, and nicely balanced, the wine will be well-suited to delicately seared chicken livers with a cream-and chanterelle sauce. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
