Under the direction of internationally-known winemaker David Norman, Gatt produces exceptional Rieslings. The clay-loam soils, with ironstone and quartz gravels near the surface, give minerality and extra concentration, depth and ageing potential to these wines, as shown here. This example is medium yellow-gold in hue with lemon-lime fruit accented by tangerine and orange blossom. A touch of petrol demonstrates the wine’s relative maturity. Dry, the mid-weight palate has very brisk acidity and a creamy texture, suggesting some lees ageing. Linear in style, the wine would pair well with classic moules marinières. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
