Tasting notes:
Planted on the old farm established in the 1890s, the Old Vine Gardens Wattle Brae vines were put in place in 1969-70 on grey, sandy loam over sandstone, ironstone and granite soils. Youthful, pale lemon-green in colour, the wine shows yellow apple, acacia honey and lemon blossom, with stony, almost chalky overtones. Off-dry (4.53g/l residual sugar), the light-bodied palate flavours are supported by lively acidity. A rounded mid-palate and a sappy finish indicate some lees ageing. A great choice for a Mediterranean fritto misto, but would be superb with English fish and chips, too. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
