Tasting notes:
The Gaisberg vineyard, with weathered gneiss and schist bedrock and a thin layer of loess topsoil, is an excellent site for Riesling. The higher altitudes of around 300m deliver this beautifully balanced wine from Weingut Etz. Medium yellow-gold in hue, the wine has white peach, apricot, tangerine and orange, with possibly a little bit of late harvest orange marmalade adding subtle sweetness and honey notes. On the almost dry palate (7.4g/l residual sugar), bracing acidity holds the wine together and leads onto a lingering, sappy finish. Layered and textured, this is a wine to match a succulent salmon soufflé. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
