Tasting notes:

This year, Bodegas Faustino unveiled its brand new winery near Oyón in Rioja Alavesa, which opened its doors in September. This wine, albeit with a traditional attitude, is definitely modern. Deep cherry in hue, the wine shows blackcurrant, redcurrant and some bramble, with vanilla pod, and tobacco and leather showing some development. Dry with vibrant fruit expression, the palate flavours are supported by lively acidity and grainy tannins, some from the wood, and a hint of lifted balsamic. Quite full-bodied, the wine is beautifully integrated and has a mouthwatering, sappy finish. A good match for sautéed chicken livers on Camargue red rice.  (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
