Tasting notes:
Founded by Julio Faustino Martínez in 1988, Campillo aims for true essence in wine, and the wine tourism experience is unparalleled. The château-inspired winery is set in 50 hectares of vines, and the winery tour includes glimpses of the art collection, as well as the winemaking and ageing cellars. The tasting itself is worth the detour to Laguardia. This wine, too, is exceptional. Quite deep cherry-coloured, it is full of summer pudding fruit supported by smoky oak, and hints of earth and leather, indicating the wine’s development. Medium-bodied, the nicely defined palate flavours are framed by crisp acidity and woody tannins, with delicate spices and a really intriguing sapid note on the finish. A good match for succulent lamb kleftiko. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
