Founded in 1890, J García Carrión is now the largest winery (and second largest fruit-juice producer) in Europe. But big can also be good, as we see here. Producing wine in 10 DOP regions in Spain from myriad grape varieties and in different styles, the quality is high at all price points. This delicious Rioja crianza is delightful and typical: aromatic with morello cherry, strawberry and cedarwood, and showing a crushed red rose-petal lift. Brisk acidity and svelte tannins frame the mid-weight palate flavours. Well balanced with delicious spice notes, this is a good complement to grilled chicken with a touch of red wine sauce.
