Tasting notes:

Established in 1850, the companyname derives from the partnershipof brothers João Joaquim andFrancisco Eduardo Henriques aftertheir father’s death in 1912. Thecompany owns some very old vineyards,including Malvasia, upon which this wineis based. Deep brown in colour withgreen hints on the rim, the wine exhibitsapple and pastry, smoky wood, burntsugar and orange zest. The palate is quitesweet, though not cloying, with racyacidity and linen-textured wood tanninsgiving support. Almost meaty, definitelyroasted, and with noticeable cedar wood,this is a wine for roast duck at Christmas,or some other noteworthy holiday.(Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
