Located in the eastern foothills ofthe Helan Mountains of China, theChâteau Rong Yuanmei vineyardscomprise gravel and sandy soils,much like those of the Bordeaux region.This wine, more of an Australian-styleblend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah,is deep ruby-purple in colour and showsdark berry fruit with vanilla, darkchocolate and tobacco accents and a violetfloral note. Dry, but sweet-fruited, thepalate is supported by bracing acidity,abundant velvet-textured tannins andbalanced alcohol. Integrated and layered,this is a serious wine with a lingeringfinish. Pair with guinea fowl marinated injuniper, garlic and red wine and servedwith a blackcurrant sauce.(Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
