Based on an old family recipe from Piedmont, Trinchero\'s Vermouth is thereal deal. Crafted using up to 13 botanicals, including Roman artemisia, orrisroot, cinnamon, cinchona bark, lemon and orange zests, and juniper. Theresulting wine – yes, vermouth is a wine, albeit fortified lightly – is delicious.Deepish tawny in colour, this example is packed with gentle nuts and driedapricots, dates and orange zest. Medium in sweetness, the palate is intense,with complex flavours balanced by crisp acidity and nicely integrated grapespirit. Excellent on its own over ice, the myriad of Christmas spices and driedfruits suggest that this wine might work well with properly aged, homemadeChristmas cake. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
