Bodegas Altanza\'s origins are inFuenmayor (Rioja), dating backto 1998, when a group of Riojabusinessmen decided to focuson high-quality reservas and granreservas, and developing their brand. In2020, they founded their tiny Jerezanobodega in Santiago, Jerez, sourcing winesfrom very old soleras. This example, fromthe collection honouring Roberto Amillo,is medium topaz-copper in hue, withroasted hazelnuts and a gently salty edge.Aged, showing savoury flavours, thewine has fair acidity and phenolic bite,giving lovely texture. It has the intensityand complexity to match pan-searedguineafowl breast with medjool dates andcitrus zests, freshly-ground pepper and afew cloves. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
