Tasting notes:
The Riccardi family has a long and illustrious history in Florence, including the acquisition around 1659 of the 15th-century Medici Palazzo (now Medici Riccardi) in the centre of Florence, designed by Renaissance architect Michelozzo. The Tuscan wine estate has passed through only four families (Gambacorta, Riccardi, Castelli and, latterly, Hands). Now with the Hands family, the estate has been restored to its very old glory. Like its familial story, the wine is understated, but concentrated and tenacious. Deep ruby in colour, the lifted aromatics have cranberry, dried cherry and toasty wood. The palate is quite full, showing good freshness and dense, velvet-textured tannins to balance the flavour. Real interest and spices on the mid-palate and finish. This wine will beautifully match osso buco Milanese. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
