Tasting notes:
Viña Santa Rita was founded in 1880 by Don Domingo Fernández Concha, aleading businessman and public figure, who brought grapes and winemakingexpertise from France to the Maipo Valley. Casa Real Reserva Especial is oneof the finest Cabernet Sauvignons in Chile. Grown at about 565m altitudeonly 30km from Santiago, the grapes experience the perfect terroir for ripening, yearafter year. This wine has a deepish ruby colour, and morello cherry and bramble fruit, with smoky oak and a hint of peppermint adding interest. Dry and plush-textured, thepalate shows brisk acidity and satin tannins lifting the wine. A lingering finish has alovely spicy lift, making this a good match for pork belly or even traditional roast beef.(Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
