Who would have thought one ofthe highest-scoring sparkling winesof the competition would be aPiedmontese fizz? But here it is – a Masterof 2024 – made from Pinot Noir and atouch of Chardonnay grown in northernItaly, and crafted by Banfi. Fully mature,this 2012 expression has notes of honeyand hazelnut, caramel and charcoal, thendried apple and candied lemon. As for thefinish, that’s fresh, dry and persistent,with a lingering, slightly bitter citruscharacter to make you salivate.(Patrick Schmitt MW)
