Tasting notes:
Las Barrancas is located in the Maipú district on the plateau of Mendoza at about 750m above sea level. Here Pascual Toso’s vineyards comprise more than 220 hectares on a range of decomposed soils, making them suitable for different grape varietals. Aged for 14 months in French and American barrels, this Cabernet Franc is very deep purple-ruby in hue, showing dense black fruits and smoky oak with a herbal lift and violet note. The flavours are supported by lively acidity, satin tannins and warming alcohol. The finish is sappy, savoury and lip-smacking, suggesting the wine deserves an interestingly sauced dish, such as guinea fowl with leeks and chestnut mushrooms in red wine.(Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
