Abadal’s award-winning wine tourism includes the re-use of local dry-stone huts dating back to at least the 12th century, as a way of contributing to the cultural heritage. This superb wine, from grapes grown on ferrous-clay soils in the DO Pla des Bages, is another part of the experience. Abadal’s elegant wines include Cinc, an oaked Merlot with medium-deep ruby hue and crunchy red berry and plum fruit, accented with vanilla notes. Dry, but packed with lovely sweet fruit balanced by tangy acidity, grippy tannins and warming alcohol, the wine has beautiful definition and excellent length. Flavourful, it will pair with rack-of-lamb roasted with garlic and rosemary. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
