Kendall-Jackson released its first Chardonnay in 1982, then diversified into Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and other ‘international’ varietal wines. Head winemaker Randy Ullom and his team crafted this delicious Merlot blend from Sonoma County vineyards. Deep ruby-purple in hue, the wine shows morello cherry and black fruits, accented by chocolate and cigar box. Full-bodied, the palate is sweet-fruited and supported by fresh acidity, grainy tannins and warming alcohol. The sappy mid-palate and savoury finish suggest that the wine will be a perfect match for roast chicken marinated in garlic and Indian spices. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
