Northern Monk to raffle 15 litre Nebuchadnezzar of imperial stout
Yorkshire brewery Northern Monk is set to raffle a one-of-a-kind hand-painted 15 litre bottle of its imperial stout named Heaven to as part of a fundraising effort to assist community projects.
The 15% ABV beer, which is one of the largest bottles of imperial stout to have ever been released, will be raffled for charity. Every penny raised will be donated to Holbeck Together, a charity which provides essential support to families, and vulnerable residents in Holbeck – the neighbourhood where Northern Monk first began brewing, and still calls home today.
Matured in whisky casks
In terms of what to expect from the beer, it has been aged for three years in Speyside whisky casks and has developed” extraordinary depth and richness,” according to the brewer.
With a taste profile which features “layers of dark chocolate, treacle, dried fruit, roasted malt, and warm, honeyed oak, with the fruit-led character of Speyside whisky running through the finish” the beer is also being touted as a “one in a million”.
Hand-painted and finished in gold leaf
The bottle itself has been hand-painted and finished with gold leaf by local sign painter Third Eye Signs, meaning that the release is also a one-off functional artwork as well as a beer. “No replicas exist, and none will ever be made again,” the brewery has assured.
Northern Monk will raffle the Nebuchadnezzar via Faith in Futures, the brewery’s in-house foundation supporting community projects across the North.

This release forms the final stage of the brewery’s mission to raise £150,000 for community projects through Faith in Futures, with £145,000 already donated and is the final push to complete the goal the independent team have been building towards.
Northern Monk founder and managing director Russell Bisset said: “This is the most ambitious release we’ve ever undertaken.”
Community support
Bisset explained: “If we’re going to make something this rare, it should stand for something real. Faith in Futures exists to support our communities, and Holbeck Together has been serving our home neighbourhood for decades. It felt right that this release gives back to where it all started – particularly at a time of year when their community support holds such importance for so many local families.”
Holbeck Together chief officer Elissa Newman added: “Holbeck is one of the most deprived areas in the country and at this time of the year, it is so important to support people to bring some joy into their lives. Northern Monk is always besides us in giving back to the community, we couldn’t do what we do without the support of such wonderful local businesses”
