Winery releases rare selection to raise $250,000 for cancer research

Washington State winery Quilceda Creek has opened its exclusive cellar this October in support of the Cancer Research Institute, marking Cancer Awareness Month with a rare library release.

Washington State’s Quilceda Creek will release a rare collection of library wines this month in support of the Cancer Research Institute (CRI), with 50% of proceeds from each bottle donated to the non-profit. The winery has set a fundraising goal of US$250,000.

The sale begins on 27 October, marking only the second public library release in the winery’s 48-year history. Founded in 1978, Quilceda Creek is one of the most acclaimed family-owned wineries in the United States, and its Cabernet Sauvignons have earned more 100-point scores from leading critics than almost any other American producer.

Normally, the wines are available only to members of Quilceda Creek’s private mailing list. For this special #QuilcedaCares campaign, however, the Golitzin family will open up a limited number of bottles to the public.

“Each of us knows someone who has been impacted by cancer, and the work done by CRI is extraordinary in its ability to turn research into real hope for individuals and families,” said president Paul Golitzin. “We are honoured to support its mission and proud to contribute to discoveries that are changing lives.”

Supporting pioneering cancer research

Since its founding in 1953, CRI has played a key role in advancing cancer immunotherapy, bringing together scientists, funders and patients to accelerate breakthroughs.

“Partnerships like this remind us that science doesn’t happen in isolation – it’s powered by people and communities who care,” said Alicia Zhou, PhD, CEO of CRI. “Quilceda Creek’s generosity helps fuel discoveries that bring cancer treatments closer to every patient, everywhere.”

The library release will feature Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon in 6- and 12-bottle verticals, as well as 1.5L magnums. The wine made history when the 2002 vintage became the first non-California wine to receive a 100-point score from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

Collectors will also have a one-time opportunity to join Quilceda Creek’s private mailing list, bypassing the typical 12- to 24-month wait if they make a purchase in support of the campaign.

The release will remain available until sold out. More details can be found at quilcedacreek.com.
