The West Country-based café-bar group was launched in Bristol in 2002 by friends Alex Reilley, Dave Reid and Jake Bishop.

Loungers Antico Lounge

UK restaurant and bar operator, Loungers, has celebrated the launch of its 300th site – Antico Lounge – in Alton, East Hampshire.

Founded in Bristol by 2002 by friends Alex Reilley, Jake Bishop and Dave Reid, the company began with a single Lounge on North Street, Bristol.

The all-day café/bar format took hold across the UK, and in 2010, sister brand Cosy Club launched, with a third brand, Brightside, launched in 2022.

This year, Loungers has opened 21 new Lounges so far, with each site contributing, on average, nearly £1m investment to the local high street, and the creation of around 30 new jobs.

Alex Reilley, Loungers chairman, said: “When we opened the first Lounge back in August 2002 we couldn’t have imagined that 23 years on we would have 300 sites in the UK.  It has been a remarkable journey so far, with a lot more still to come.

A team effort

“We are so proud of the thousands of jobs we have created and the positive impact we have had on Britain’s high streets.”

In May, Loungers also launched a new Cosy Club in Reading, and the brand is set to come to St Albans in October.

The 300th site opened on 13 August. Nick Collins, Loungers CEO, said reaching the milestone was a “fabulous team effort”.

“We couldn’t have reached this milestone without the astonishing effort of everyone who is involved in finding, building, and opening our sites; supporting them from our HQ, and of course our teams in the Lounges, Cosy Clubs and Brightsides busy serving communities across the UK,” he added.
