Distell launches Amarula Chocolate using sustainable African cocoa

Distell has launched a new Amarula chocolate cream liqueur that uses sustainably-sourced African cocoa beans and marula fruit in the blend.

Speaking at the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes this week, the 15.5% ABV chocolate liqueur was showcased alongside Distell’s other recent Amarula launch, it’s gin, and served neat during a presentation.

African cocoa beans are known for their “light to medium body” the company revealed and added that this “perfectly complements the citrus and tropical flavours of the marula fruit.

Distell International head of Europe & global travel retail, Luke Maga, said: “We are proud to introduce our latest flavour innovation at Cannes. With Amarula Chocolate, we blend sustainably sourced African cocoa, marula fruit, cream and a taste of Africa for new, younger consumers as well as lovers of the original Amarula taste.”

Maga added: “This indulgent new offering promotes Amarula’s African origins with its accent ingredients and creates significant buzz and a halo effect for the brand in travel retail.”

Bottles of Amarula Chocolate will be available in 70cl, 75cl or 1 litre pack sizes. Distell recently shared information about the launch of its Amarula Gin brand which it recently launched and also showcased in Cannes, with hints at the brand expanding further becoming more of a marula fruit company than a cream liqueur company.
