Could a hot cross bun beer be the perfect Easter pairing?
The Wild Beer Co has just launched a new Easter-inspired brew called One A Penny, designed to taste like a hot cross bun and pair perfectly with the holiday treat.

One A Penny is described by its makers as “a smooth, full, hazy body, like a New England IPA, but without the hops”.
Vanilla adds sweetness to the brew, which is balanced out by a fruitiness from orange peel and raisins. A slight hint of complimentary spice rounds off the taste.
The brew is a hazy golden colour, much like a perfectly toasted hot cross bun.
To celebrate the occasion, The Wild Beer Co has partnered with Somerset bakery Lievito, developing hot cross buns made with the One A Penny beer.
Andrew Cooper, co -founder of The Wild Beer Co, said: “At The Wild Beer Co we love to get creative with our flavour combinations and produce beers that pair harmoniously with and are inspired by food.

“Experimentation is a major part of what we do and after 10 years of brewing we love to keep things fresh, so when we had the idea to create a brew for Easter we couldn’t resist making a beer version of the much-loved hot cross bun.
“Tasting over 15 different kinds of hot cross buns – hey, someone’s gotta do it – to understand the bready, sweet flavour, we’ve landed with One A Penny, a pale, smooth, full-bodied beer with hints of sweetness blended with complex spices that pairs perfectly with the Easter treat.”
If you thought a hot cross bun-inspired beer was weird, wait until you hear about the new virtual beer Heineken has launched.
The virtual beer, which has been created in a virtual brewery within the digital platform Decentraland, has been made with 100% computer-generated ingredients especially for fans of the metaverse. Read more on that here.
