Taylor’s launches tawny in historic bottle

Port company Taylor’s has launched its special edition tawny Port in a 75cl bottle based on 18^th century designs, to answer the on-going demand for limited edition Ports – especially tawnies.

As with previous releases, the Port is a blend of Tawny Ports of different ages and has been bottled in a squat bottle of a shape common in England from around 1715-1740 and which are sometimes referred to as “flat chestnuts”.

It’s also not dissimilar to the German ‘bocksbeutel‘ the shape of which dates to the same period.

Taylor’s managing director, Adrian Bridge, said that the launch of the new wine was due to: “The success of the Taylor’s Historic Limited Edition and the growing demand for special editions from both existing and new Port consumers, led us to enlarge our offer of these historical bottles.”

The company has launched several special edition and special old tawnies in the recent past. The tawny in the historic bottle in particular has proved to be a popular addition to its range.

The first bottle in the ‘historic bottle’ line was released in 2017 to mark the company’s 325^th anniversary and was based on an earlier – even squatter – 17^th century design. Last year a special edition one-litre bottle based on this 18^th century shape was released.

The wine in the new 75cl format will be available from stockists including Harvey Nichols and Tanners from this month with an RRP of £28.
