Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness fronts beer released for Seattle Pride

The Seattle-based Elysian Brewing Company is bringing back its GLITTERis Pride Ale for Seattle’s Pride march, and fronting the beer is the fabulous Queer Eye favourite Jonathan Van Ness.

The blackberry and raspberry cream ale was first introduced in 2018 last year around the city’s march and once again appears in similar glitter-laden packaging.

The ale uses Mandarina hops to produce a fruit-forward character, with 4.4% ABV. The drink will be available from June 2019.

Elysian is the official beer sponsor of the Seattle Pride parade, and a portion of the proceeds from GLITTERis Pride Ale sales benefit the organisation. The parade, scheduled to last four hours, is planned for June 30.

Alongside the beer, a competition will be launched for consumers to win a wedding officiated by Van Ness himself. CAN YOU BELIEVE?

Jonathan Van Ness, the Netflix show’s hairdresser and beauty mentor extraordinaire, will officiate a wedding at Elysian’s Capitol Hill location on 4 June. To enter, couples over 25 have to post a video to Instagram, describing their love story and why they want to be married by Van Ness.

The obvious answer being, why wouldn’t you?

Van Ness said: “I’m so excited to team up with Elysian Brewing during Seattle Pride, to share the message that all people should be free and proud to express themselves as they are.

“I can’t wait for June!”

Details are available on the Seattle Pride website.

Seattle Pride president Kevin Toovey said the organisers “couldn’t think of a better way to kick off Seattle Pride festivities than with this contest.

“We can’t wait to celebrate the wedding of the summer with one lucky couple come June.”

Elysian Brewing Company operates three locations and a production brewery in Seattle, Washington. Elysian has brewed over 500 different recipes since opening on Capitol Hill in Seattle in 1996.

The company sold $24.1 million worth of pale ales and IPAs last year, a boost of 80.9% compared with 2016, making the brand one of the 15 most popular craft beer brands in the US.
