Prosecco producer launches crowdfunding campaign for Giacomo Casanova museum

Prosecco brand Casanova has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the first “museum and experience” dedicated to the poet, musician and amorous adventurer Giacomo Casanova in Venice.

As well as paintings, memorabilia and other artefacts, the museum will also incorporate technology and multimedia allowing visitors to “revive the romantic adventures of Giacomo Casanova”. Quite how realistic these revivals will be, remains to be seen.

As a funding incentive, the Prosecco producer has created a number of different “perks”. These range from the least expensive (£5) which includes a simple ‘thank you’ message to ‘The Swarovski Message in a bottle’ which includes a magnum of a Swarovski crystal-encrusted bottle of Casanova Prosecco complete with thank you letter and discount coupon for the museum and experience, all for the tidy sum of £4,999.

The full list of perks can be viewed here.

Casanova hopes that the museum will help to increase tourism to the region and lead to further job opportunities in the area. They are currently finalising the details of the project with assistance from the Mayor of Venice.

According to the crowdfunding page, the ‘flexible goal’ set is £1.2 million and the projected opening date is April this year. The museum will be located at the Palazzo Pesaro Papafava.

In its first year, it hopes to have between 80,000 and 130,000 visitors rising to 130,000-220,000 in its second year and up to 300,000 in its third. It is estimated that between 15 million and 20 million people visit Venice each year.

If the museum proves a success, Casanova hopes to take it around the world, setting up permanent museums in Prague and temporary exhibitions in St Petersburg, London, Paris, New York, Tokyo and Beijing.
