IMW lots and Burgundy star at Bonhams

The final part of the Institute of Masters of Wine auction and a collection of fine Burgundy were the focus of two Bonhams auctions this month.

To begin with the online part of the sale raising money for the IMW Endowment Fund closed this week having raised £121,370.

The 100 lots included a dinner for six with Jancis Robinson MW and a bottle of the 2014 vintage from each of the 1855 Classification properties as well as other wine treasures and adventures.

Along with the live auction held earlier this month, which made £1 million, the combined sales made over £1.1m for the fund, far exceeding the target set.

The IWM’s chairwoman, Jane Masters MW, said: “We are still astonished at the result, and are so grateful for the generosity shown to the Institute. These funds will be invested in the short term and ultimately give us the opportunity to enhance our work across the international wine community for many years to come.”

On 23 November, meanwhile, Burgundy featured prominently in a sale that realised £931,956 in total.

The top lot was a 12 bottle case of Echézeaux 1999 Henri Jayer which made £41,835 and six magnums of Jean Grivot 2005 Richebourg were sold for £13,145.

Other top-selling lots included a bottle of 1857 Yquem (£8,365); a case of 1989 Haut-Brion; a vertical of Château Latour spanning 1951-2001 (£14,340); a magnum of 2005 Scharzhofberger Tba from Egon Müller and a case of 1979 Krug.
