In a statement following the 19th edition of the trade fair, Vinexpo revealed that three clear trends have emerged.

Firstly, that the ‘the quality of visitors and strong presence of decision makers’ was ‘remarked on by exhibitors’. The point was further emphasised by the number of meetings (2,000) arranged before the show.

Secondly, the group announced that the show reflected ‘the ability of Vinexpo to unite players in the sector.’

Guillaume Deglise, CEO of Vinexpo Group, commented: “Our aim was to give added support to the quality of our visitor universe. I can say today that we have kept our promise.”

The show was attended by buyers from 150 different countries as well as industry trade bodies, Michelin-starred chefs, famous sommeliers and of course members of the drinks media, including the drinks business.

Finally, the group confirmed ‘the success of the rich content and information’ provided. In particular, it drew attention to conferences on topics such as the impact of climate change and the implications of Brexit.

As previously reported by the drinks business, Riesling Day on 20 June gave Vinexpo Bordeaux the chance to focus on the grape which, according to Deglise, deserved to be highlighted due to its high level of global recognition.

Although the final figures have not yet been released, Vinexpo stated that the largest number of visitors came from France, followed by China and the USA. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Vinexpo and TMall – the retail platform of China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba Group – will increase China’s presence at Vinexpo while assisting the trade fair’s recognition in the Asian Market. Likewise, Vinexpo New York, due to take place in March 2018, will help Vinexpo gain traction in the US.
