Follador gears up for ProWein

Prosecco producer Follador is gearing up for ProWein in just over a week’s time.

The Italian wine producer is showcasing a range of its wines at the global wine fair, which is returning to the Messe Düsseldorf on 19-21 March.

The company, which was founded in 1970 but traces its winemaking history back to 1769, will be showing its Classic and Superior ranges, which includes four DOCGs wines in the ‘Torri di Credazzo’ Cuvée, Cartizze, Brut and Extra-Dry categories. The wines will be available to taste at the company’s ProWein stand, Hall 16, stand C21.

The Italian producer is also exhibiting at Vinitaly in Verona (hall 5, stand B2), which is set to run from 9-12 April.

A spokesman said the shows provided an “indispensable” opportunity to meet with new and existing customers and members of the trade as well as providing the trade with the chance to learn how the most innovative ideas and concepts were being incorporated across the trade.

“Above all, we want to be present as ambassadors of the great tradition of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, a story in which Follador has historically been one of the leaders,” it added.

Last year marked a ‘great’ vintage for Prosecco, winemaker Francesca Follador told db, with a significant difference between temperatures during the day and at night in August causing “optimal” conditions to develop high acidity and enough sugar, following a cool start to the season.

The good vintage comes as news that sales of Prosecco are set to surpass 412 million bottles by 2020, according to a new biennial report released by Vinexpo and the IWSR. The boost would give Italian wine a 9.3% share of the global sparkling market within the next five years, outgrowing other types of sparkling wine, and increasing nearly 14% to around 34.4m cases.

Markets tipped for growth include Italy, the UK, the US and China, which has only recently started to buy into the sparkling category. The growth is predicted to come at the expense of the cheapest end of the Champagne market.
