WA announces 2017 Michelin events

Wine Advocate and the Michelin Guide’s series of Macau and Hong Kong dining events for 2017 have now been announced.

After launching in October 2016, the 2017 Michelin Guide Dining Series will highlight some of the best local and international chefs visiting Hong Kong and Macau.

The first event runs until tomorrow and highlights chef, Jie Ming Jian from Canton 8 – one of the first restaurants in China to be awarded two Michelin stars in last year’s inaugural Shanghai edition.

Jian was born in Hong Kong in 1949 and is an honorary member of Les Amis d’Escoffier Society and earned his first Michelin star when working as at City Garden Hotel from 2008-2009 before going onto Tang Dynasty in Xi’an from 2010-2015.

Jian’s event at Pearl Dragon in Studio City, Macau will feature a four-course lunch (MOP 480) or eight-course dinner (MOP 1,280) of his signature dishes and new creations.

From 2-3 March, Chen Kentaro from Singapore’s two Michelin starred Shinen Hanten will bring his fiery Sichuan cuisine to Hong Kong’s newly opened Dim Sum Library in a six course dinner (HK2,088) which is inspired by his grandfather, Chen Kinman, known as the ‘Father of Sichuan cuisine’ in Japan.

Yoshinori Ishii of two Michelin starred Umu in London will fly in to highlight authentic Kyoto cuisine in a six-course dinner (MOP 1,940) at Macau’s Tenmasa in Altira from 29 March-1 April.

Finally, one of Hong Kong’s favourite chefs, Umberto Bombana of Otto e Mezzo – the only Italian restaurant outside of Italy to be awarded three Michelin stars – will also make an appearance on 27-28 March at Otto, though full details are yet to be released.

All events will be paired with a selection of top-siring wines from chosen by Wine Advocate.
