Bong-smoked cocktails on sale in US

As reported by Vice, the cocktails are the brainchild of bartender Jason Eisner who works at Gracias Madre in West Hollywood.

Priced at $25 a pop, among the cocktails on offer are the Up in Smoke, made with hemp seeds, a Smoked Manhattan and a Mexican shandy served in a porron that you can pour directly into your mouth using the spout.

In addition to bong-smoked cocktails, Eisner also served a barrel-smoked drink featuring homemade coffee liqueur and smoked cacao nibs.

The inspiration for the quirky cocktails came after Eisner started smoking dishes he made at home with a smoking gun.

During his research, Eisner discovered that hops and cannabis are related.

“On a scientific level, they share a lot of similar flavours and aromas, which explains why sometimes when you open an IPA it smells like chronic,” he told Vice.

“When you think about it, a bong is a decanter. When you use it the way it was intended, it is purifying marijuana smoke and allowing you to experience the smoking process without all of the carcinogenic kief,” he added.

Eisner is hoping marijuana is legalised in the US so he can serve cocktails in bongs with different strains of marijuana smoke paired specifically with the flavours in the cocktail.
