IMW appoints Meiburg as chair of education committee

Debra Meiburg MW has joined the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) for the next three years in a key role as chair of its education committee.

Meiburg will be responsible for global education for all Master of Wine candidates, leading the team of MWs who plan and deliver educational weeks in US, Australasia and Europe, as well as international course days delivered in 10-12 countries around the world.

Penny Richards, executive director of the Institute of Masters of Wine, said: “We’re so delighted Debra has been chosen to take on this role. She already contributes so much to the Institute’s global study programme, and her experience of organising a week-long seminar in Bordeaux each year for our European Stage 2 students will stand her in great stead for this new responsibility.”

The IMW Education Committee (EdCom) is responsible for designing and – with the assistance of the executive office – implementing the study programme around the world, including: residential seminars, course days, assignment schemes, research paper advice and mentor recruitment and training.

This member-based arm of the Institute is responsible for designing a robust study and training programme that best prepares candidates for the MW examination and members for their roles as mentors and RP (research paper) advisors, all in keeping with Council’s policies. Among other key tasks, it is also a provider of pre-examination assessment of candidates at all stages of the candidate process – from admissions through to the sitting of the exam.

Meiburg said: “As my heart has always been aligned with education, I’m very honoured to be entrusted with the educational success of future Masters of Wine.”
