Bordeaux 2012: Margaux matches Mouton

Château Margaux has released its 2012 at the same price as fellow first growth Mouton Rothschild.

The estate dropped from €360 per bottle ex-négociant in 2011 to €240 p/b (33%), which, like Mouton, makes it one of the cheaper vintages on the market.

Also out was the second wine, Pavillon Rouge with a 12% price cut from €85 p/b to €75 p/b – still a hefty 188% above the 2008 release price €26.

Also out this morning were Saint-Emilion properties Canon and Beau-Séjour Bécot, l’Evangile’s second wine Blaison de l’Evangile and Barsac estate Climens.

Canon gave its price a sizeable 42% cut from €62.50 p/b to €36.50, this drops it down to just 1% (€0.50) above its 2008 release.

The drop in price is encouraging too because critic Robert Parker was full of praise for the Right Bank (particularly Pomerol but also Saint Emilion) in his latest video overview.

Like Coutet which released yesterday, Climens is one of the few Sauternes releasing a sweet wine this year.

It too has dropped 41% from its 2011 price bringing it down from €69.50 p/b to €41 p/b.

In an unusual turn of events, this new price actually drops Climens below its 2008 price of €58.50 p/b by 30%.
