New wine academy from AWC

The Antique Wine Company is to start offering wine courses from next month.

Based in Marylebone, The Antique Wine Company’s new, Wine Academy, was set up “in response to first hand evidence of their clients desire to extend their wine knowledge.”

Having taken on wine journalist John Stimpfig as director and with Tim Atkin MW as a guest tutor, alongside other masters of wine and industry professionals, the academy aims to offer courses that are “structured and informative, yet relaxed and entertaining in their delivery”.

The Antique Wine Company will also be using its contacts with various châteaux owners to offer participants visits to their vineyards and specially organised tastings.

Stephen Williams, managing director of The Antique Wine Company, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer such high quality courses that will be run by high calibre tutors, who are leading wine experts.

“The aim of the AWC Wine Academy is to become a central resource for the wine industry, not only teaching those with little or no prior knowledge of wine, but those also working in the industry who wish to progress and extend their knowledge of the subject.

“We would like to offer professional training for example, for the hospitality industry, where there is an inherent need, here and abroad.”

The first series of courses will be run by Atkin and commence on 14 September, entitled “Essential Wine Tasting Techniques for Beginners”.

The course costs £360 per person for four weekly sessions.
