Benvenuto Brunello launching London edition
Benvenuto Brunello, the tasting of the latest vintage of Brunello di Montalcino to be released, is visiting London for the first time at the end of this month.

The annual tasting is organised by the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino each November, in the cloister of the iconic Sant ’Agostino Museum, in the centre of Montalcino, in order to taste the new release of Brunello di Montalcino each year. These come onto the market in January, five years after the vintage itself, with the Riserva wines following on a year later, (ie six years after the vintage of the harvest) – this will see the 2021 vintage and 2022 Riserva.
The event is now coming to London for the first time, with 27 producers set to pour their wines. These include Banfi, Col d’Orcia, Fattoria dei Barbi, Marchesi Frescobaldi, Poggio di Sotto and Talenti.
Benvenuto Brunello London is aimed at the press and trade, starting with the Horeca sector. It is being held on 24 March at Dartmouth House in Mayfair, and will include a walk-around tasting and two masterclasses led by Gabriele Gorelli MW.
The decision to bring Benvenuto Brunello to London now reflects the Consorzio’s desire to strengthen the presence of the denomination – and Brunello in particular – in the UK market, as well as consolidating relationships with local operators and media, it told db. “We are increasingly convinced that establishing a regular event in our key markets is a strategic choice, especially in a period of growing competition, and London continues to stand out as one of the most international wine hubs in the world,” a spokesman said.

The UK has long been a key market for fine wines, thanks to its established wine culture and a network of passionate sommeliers and restaurateurs, but it also serves as one of the main wine hubs for Asia, they said. “In this context, Benvenuto Brunello in London was created with the aim of strengthening the presence of Brunello di Montalcino in one of the most important international markets for high-end wines. At the same time, London provides companies with a strategic logistical platform for those looking to expand into Eastern markets.”
In addition to the walk-around tasting, Master of Wine Gabriele Gorelli will guide a masterclass, ‘Brunello di Montalcino 2021: Decoding the vintage’, giving an in-depth overview of the latest release through eight representative wines looking at the climate, viticulture and stylistic expression.
