Timeless elegance: Crémant de Loire’s leading light
A leading light of Crémant de Loire, Maison Ackerman combines a pioneering spirit with modern elegance.

In 2025, Crémant de Loire toasted its 50th anniversary as an appellation, marking half a century of recognition for one of France’s most dynamic sparkling wine regions. Yet the roots of the area’s history run far deeper.
More than two centuries ago, in 1811, a visionary Belgian entrepreneur laid the foundations for what would become a cornerstone of Loire Valley sparkling wine: Ackerman. Founded by Jean-Baptiste Ackerman, the house is today recognised as the Loire Valley’s oldest and most iconic producer of fine sparkling wine.
Ackerman was the first to take the bold approach of applying the traditional method in Saumur. This pioneering decision would ultimately shape the identity of Crémant de Loire itself. From those early experiments to its present-day global reach, Maison Ackerman has remained true to its founding spirit, merging technical mastery with creative ambition.
New launch
And at Wine Paris 2026, taking place from 9-11 February, Maison Ackerman will begin an exciting new chapter with the launch of its Crémant de Loire Blanc de Noirs. Inspired by Jean-Baptiste Ackerman’s early experiments with red grape varieties, this cuvée was crafted with a clear focus on a generous, expressive and pleasurable tasting profile.

Today, Maison Ackerman is France’s leading producer of Crémant de Loire, with its wines enjoyed in more than 40 countries worldwide. Its success is rooted in a deep connection to the land, with the house cultivating 100 hectares of vineyards dedicated to Crémant de Loire, where Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc flourish under ideal climatic and geological conditions.
These varieties express the freshness and finesse that define the Loire Valley. Sustainability and respect for biodiversity are key to the production process. Through responsible vineyard management and careful winemaking, Ackerman ensures that each grape contributes to wines of balance and elegance, thus balancing tradition and modernity. This is clearly expressed in the house’s three signature cuvées: Bulle Royale, the flagship of Maison Ackerman, Réserve Cuvée and Royal – aged for 18, 24 and 36 months respectively.

Pay a visit
Beyond the bottle, Maison Ackerman also excels when it comes to wine tourism. Its vast troglodyte cellars in Saumur, carved into the limestone, offer visitors an immersive journey into the world of sparkling wine. As the Loire Valley’s first wine tourism destination, the site blends wine with art.
Thanks to a partnership with the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, immersive installations transform the cellars into creative hubs. And visitors have a lot to look forward to this spring, when a new visitor experience will be launched, offering an innovative trip through history, craftsmanship and contemporary art – promising an unmissable destination for wine and culture lovers alike.
