Taylor’s releases limited edition Single Harvest 1976 Port

The Port house unveils a new addition to its Single Harvest collection, marking the latest release from its extensive reserves of cask-aged wines.

Taylor’s has announced the release of the Taylor’s Single Harvest 1976, a limited edition Port drawn from a single year’s harvest and matured in seasoned oak casks.

The wine joins the producer’s long-running Single Harvest collection, which began with the 1964 harvest. Taylor’s only releases wines in this series in years it considers to be of exceptional quality, with each bottle bearing the year of harvest on the label.

Taylor’s is known for holding one of the largest reserves of cask-aged Port in the category, and the Single Harvest wines are matured slowly in oak until they reach full maturity.

Adrian Bridge, managing director of Taylor’s, said the 1976 release was chosen both for its quality and its historical resonance. “Each release in our Single Harvest collection is an opportunity to reflect on significant moments in history and to celebrate the years they represent. 1976 was a year of transformation and change across the world. With this limited edition, we present the ideal wine for marking 50th anniversary celebrations worldwide, offering a refined testament to the passage of time and Taylor’s mastery of cask ageing.”

David Guimaraens, Taylor’s head winemaker, described the wine as the result of extended maturation. “Taylor’s Single Harvest Ports are true living expressions of time and craftsmanship. The Single Harvest 1976 is a wine of remarkable elegance and aromatic complexity, shaped by five decades of slow maturation in seasoned oak casks. Its poise, freshness and depth reflect the artistry and patience that define our approach to extended cask ageing.”

Tasting profile and availability

The tasting note highlights a lustrous coppery colour, fading to a soft amber rim, with aromas of gingerbread, honeysuckle, Seville orange, marzipan and soft caramel. On the palate, flavours include rum and raisin, soft citrus fruit, guava and hints of grilled pineapple, followed by butterscotch and honey, finishing with crisp acidity and a long, elegant finish.

The Taylor’s Single Harvest 1976 will be available in limited quantities through selected distributors and specialist wine merchants worldwide, with an RRP of £316.

UK stockists include Hedonism, Secret Bottle Shop, Cotswold Port Company and Uncorked.
