Perelada & Chivite brings ‘freshness and expressiveness in Wine Paris debut

Spanish wine group Perelada & Chivite is putting new releases at the heart of its Wine Paris debut, spanning Empordà, Navarra, Rioja and Ribera del Duero.

With three major new releases being introduced to the global wine trade, Perelada & Chivite is signaling bold ambition as it takes its first stand at Wine Paris.

The path to Paris has been a long one. The company’s origins date back to 1647, with the founding of Chivite. Its centuries of tradition allowed it to develop its estates, and acquire new ones, eventually emerging as a group with more than 450 hectares of vineyards across major Spanish regions.

The debut at the world’s largest international wine fair, however, is evidence of continued growth and confidence at the family-owned group. Under the stewardship of the Suqué Mateu family, a round of major investments has placed Perelada & Chivite as one of the top 20 fastest-growing companies in the Spanish wine industry.

The company’s labels are now available in 71 countries. There, they are represented by key players in local markets; in the UK, for instance, Enotria and Alliance Wines import Perelada & Chivite’s wines.

Those international clients will therefore have the opportunity at Wine Paris to sample the very latest expressions from the family group, as well as exploring the overarching direction of the company with key players.

New benchmarks from established regions

One of the key draws of an international fair is to taste the latest products from eminent producers, and Perelada & Chivite is not disappointing, with three new wines available to taste.

One of the debuts comes from Perelada Winery: Garrigal Vinyes Velles 2023. The old-vine Cariñena (sourced from 60–80-year-old vineyards) shows off the defining characteristics of the La Garriga Estate and DO Empordà. The balance offered by resilient vines, in tandem with the area’s clear Mediterranean influence and seven months in oak, allows it to show varietal expression, elegance and balance.

Head winemaker Delfi Sanahuja says: “Garrigal 2023 is a wine that brings together the strength of the terroir, the wisdom of tradition, and the soul of vines with sixty-five years of history.”

Meanwhile Dominio de Elbio, the group’s DO Ribera del Duero property, is debuting its namesake wine, which will serve as the flagship for the estate. Sourced from around La Horra, to the south of Burgos, the expression is aged for 12 months and limited to around 17,000 bottles per vintage.

“We believe that classics are timeless, but we are also committed to freshness and expressiveness, redefining the image of the region’s traditional wines,” says David González, the project’s winemaker.

He likewise serves as technical director at Chivite in DO Navarra and at Viña Salceda in DOCa Rioja, the latter of which is also bringing a new wine.

As part of its Parajes range, Viña Salceda is previewing the yet-to-be-launched Entresierras. This new wine will join two existing terroir-focused releases in the range: Pico Palomares and Cabezaparda.

Its grapes, a mixture of old-vine Viura and Tempranillo Blanco, are sourced from Alto Najerilla and Sonsierra, a position between two mountain ranges that gives the expression its name.

Aged in a combination of barrels, concrete and foudres, it demonstrates the balance and complexity for which white Riojas are building a reputation.

Business opportunities

The wines are, of course, a significant draw for any international show, but Perelada & Chivite is also approaching Wine Paris with a view to deepening international connections.

“Wine Paris has established itself in recent years as a key meeting point, with significant growth in relevance, attendance and international reach,” explains Rocío Muñoz, export director at the group.

“Our presence at Wine Paris is primarily aimed at meeting existing clients, strengthening long-standing business relationships, and presenting our new releases, both in terms of wines and projects.”

Perelada & Chivite’s stand will therefore put the two head winemakers, González and Sanahauja, front and centre at the show. They will be on the stand to introduce wines and offer first-hand insights into the philosophy, innovation and expertise behind the expressions.

The wineries represented from the group span Spain’s finest denominations and include Viña Salceda (Rioja), Dominio de Elbio (Ribera del Duero), Perelada (Cava and Empordà), Chivite-Gran Feudo (Navarra), La Melonera (Sierras de Málaga) and Casa Gran del Siurana (Priorat).

Winery representatives will also be joining db for the launch of the Master Winemaker Top 100 2026, in which both González and Sanahauja feature. As part of the evening, the top-scoring Perelada Aires de Garbet will be on pour.

Visitors to Wine Paris can find the entire selection of wines at the Perelada & Chivite stand: Hall 6, Stand J221.
