Château La Couspaude acquired by the Flurin family

Late on Friday afternoon news confirmed some of the whispers circulating Bordeaux in recent weeks, with the announcement of the acquisition of Château La Couspaude by Pierre-Henri and Véronique Flurin.

Located on the legendary historic limestone plateau at the gates of the village of Saint-Émilion itself, La Couspaude is fantastically situated. Enclosed by stone walls and overlooking some of the appellation’s most renowned crus classés, this 7-hectare estate is characterised by elegance, precision and the timeless character of its excellent and distinctive Saint-Émilion terroir. It has seen considerable investment in recent years and the quality of its wines has risen significantly during the last decade.

Indicating the commitment of the new owners to a further upgrade in the quality of the wine, the estate will be managed on a daily basis by Vignobles K, under the direction of Jean-Christophe Meyrou. Their aim is to ensure a rigorous, terroir-driven and long-term approach in both the vineyard and the cellar.

Vignobles K is, of course, already fantastically well known for the massive development that has occurred at Châteaux Tour St-Christophe and Bellefont-Belcier, as well as the creation of the Pomerol jewel L’Enclos Tourmaline.

As Pierre-Henri and Véronique Flurin explain, “We see Château La Couspaude not as an asset, but as a living heritage. Our ambition is to protect its identity while allowing its terroir to express itself at the highest level, with respect for the vine, the soil and time”.

This acquisition will herald something of a new dawn for Château La Couspaude, combining family ownership, environmental sensitivity and an international vision for fine Bordeaux wines.
