Two London establishments have earned two stars this year. Bonheur by Matt Abé earned two stars within months of opening in the space formerly occupied by Le Gavroche. Chef Matt Abé previously spent several years at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. Meanwhile, Row on 5, a collaboration between Jason Atherton and Spencer Metzger, was promoted after earning its first star last year. The guide now features 28 two-star restaurants in total.

Twenty new one-star restaurants span Britain and Ireland

In the Republic of Ireland, Forest Avenue in Dublin received a star under chef John Wyer. The Pullman in Galway, where chef Angelo Vagiotis cooks in two original Orient Express train carriages, also gained its first star.

Scotland gained two new starred restaurants: Killiecrankie House near Pitlochry under chef Tom Tsappis, and 1887 overlooking Upper Loch Torridon under chef Danny Young.

Vraic in Vale, Guernsey, is the latest project from chef Nathan Davies, who previously held a star at SY23 in Wales. Luke French’s JÖRO earned a star after relocating from Sheffield to Oughtibridge.

In Harrogate, FIFTY TWO operates from a converted shipping container under chef Adam Degg. Two Midlands restaurants received their first stars after roughly a decade in the guide: The Wilderness in Birmingham under Alex Claridge, and The Boat in Lichfield under chef Liam Dillon.

The Hove restaurant is run under the auspices of the chef behind two-star Da Terra in London, with chef Ewan Waller leading the kitchen. Ugly Butterfly by Adam Handling in Newquay earned a star in its new location.

In London, Nieves Barragán Mohacho (pictured) opened Legado in Shoreditch following her success at Sabor. Clare Smyth’s Corenucopia in Belgravia operates with Gary Mundi in the kitchen. The Kerfield Arms in Camberwell became one of only two London pubs to hold a star under chef Jay Styler. According to inspectors, the quince and bay leaf custard doughnut impressed. Tom Brown at The Capital in Knightsbridge marks the chef’s return to the hotel where he built his reputation.

Ambassadors Clubhouse, run by the JKS group behind Gymkhana and Trishna, received a star under chef Shantilal Bhushan. Somssi by Jihun Kim earned a star for the eponymous chef’s Korean and French cooking.

The guide now features 192 one-star restaurants across Great Britain and Ireland.

All ten three-star establishments retain their awards

As per the Michelin Guide, all 10 three-star restaurants maintained their distinctions: Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, CORE by Clare Smyth, Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, L’Enclume, Moor Hall, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Sketch (The Lecture Room and Library), The Fat Duck, The Ledbury and The Waterside Inn.

Special awards presented

Maria Bradford’s Shwen Shwen in Sevenoaks won the opening of the year award. Tom Earnshaw from Bohemia in Jersey received the young chef award, sponsored by La Rousse Foods.

Barbara Nealon from Saint Francis Provisions in Kinsale earned the service award. Roxane Dupuy from Row on 5 won the sommelier award for a wine list featuring over 2,400 choices. Alasdair Shaw from Sebb’s in Glasgow claimed the exceptional cocktails award, sponsored by Tokaj. According to inspectors, the miso and malt old-fashioned was a particular standout.
