Zonin1821 to showcase Italy’s ageing potential at London tasting
In partnership with Libération Tardive founder Christopher Burr MW, wine group Zonin1821 will run a ‘10 Years Apart’ masterclass at its upcoming portfolio tasting.

While portfolio tastings are often the place to discover the very freshest vintages for a business’ range, Zonin1821 is using its annual London tasting to show its wines’ ageworthiness. As part of the event at Haberdashers’ Hall on 27 January, the ‘10 Years Apart’ masterclass will showcase five wines, each represented by two vintages which are one decade apart.
The event is to be co-hosted by Christopher Burr MW, whose passion for longer aged wine is evident in his directorship of Libération Tardive. The international non-profit foundation is dedicated to reshaping attitudes in the trade and creating opportunities to sell wines which have aged for a decade or more.
Winemakers from some of Zonin1821’s most prestigious estates will present pairs of vintages at the masterclass. The selection spans the length of Italy: Oltrenero from Lombardy, Castello di Albola from Tuscany, Masseria Altremura from Puglia and Feudo Principi di Butero from Sicily.

Although all the wines have enjoyed time to develop – the youngest comes from the 2022 vintage, while the oldest dates to 2006 – the tasting aims to show how style and terroir-driven nuances can evolve over time.
In addition to offering a perspective on pairs of vintages, the winemakers will also discuss how viticulture and winemaking have changed over more than a decade, with sustainability and climate change mitigation having emerged as key considerations over the last two decades.
With seven generations of history behind it, Zonin1821 is in an ideal situation to highlight Italian wines’ potential for ageing, drawing on stocks from its prestigious and well-established estates. The portfolio tasting will see more than 30 producers present their wines, spanning Italy as well as Zonin1821’s international estates.
