This is what Elton John Zero tastes like
As the first drinks publication to professionally rate Elton John’s new 0% sparkling wine, db can give you a flavour of what to expect from the biggest name yet to enter the category.

Reported on earlier today, British singer-songwriter Sir Elton John has entered the drinks category with the launch of a 0% ‘blanc de blancs’ bearing his name.
Made using cool-climate Chardonnay from northern Italy, it also incorporates a variety of ingredients, including green tea extract to add a touch of fine tannin, before it is gently saturated with CO2 to give it a fizz.
As for the price, in UK retailers, it’s being sold for £10, despite its position as an alcohol-free alternative to more expensive Champagne.

So what does it taste like? Following a blind tasting of the product at the end of last year, you can get a sense of what it’s like from the description below.
Elton John Zero Blanc de Blancs: the taste
A pale and light sparkling drink with enticing fruity-floral scents and flavours of ripe pear and white-fleshed peach, with a touch of pineapple too, complemented by notes of orange blossom and elderflower. While there is a subtle sweetness (35g/l r.s.), the finish is bright, with palate-cleansing bubbles and an appealing note of lime zest, followed by a dry sensation from a touch of fine tannin. In short, this is a squeaky-clean 0% fizz with a sophisticated and appealing personality – there is nothing saccharine or confected about this newcomer to the expanding alcohol-free wine sector. Elton John Zero Blanc de Blancs: how it’s made
While most 0% products are created by taking a normal-strength wine and then removing the alcohol, Elton John Zero Blanc de Blancs is made as a 0% wine from the outset by fermenting grapes with ‘good’ bacteria that don’t product any alcohol.
