Mack & Schühle Italia taps into green agenda with Grapur wines
From reusing ocean-bound plastic to an ultra-light bottle, the Grapur range from Mack & Schühle Italia is bringing sustainability to the heart of wine production and into new markets.
Courting the modern wine consumer is no easy thing. While quality and price have always mattered, they are now joined by considerations of health, ecology and carbon footprints. Catering to every need of the market would be enough to drive a producer to drink.
Yet it has not deterred Mack & Schühle Italia. Indeed, its new range, Grapur, is wholeheartedly embracing the needs of the modern consumer. Its two easy-drinking Italian wines – a red and a white – have been created to tick every box for the engaged drinker.
Central to the proposition is the combination of design and sustainability, which has already won international plaudits. Grapur secured a commendation for The Green Packaging Award at The Drinks Business Green Awards 2025. This achievement built on prior success at design awards. Grapur won a Red Dot Award in the Packaging – Beverage category and a Red Dot ‘Best of the Best’ Award in the Sustainable Design – Packaging category, as well as a bronze medal at the Pentawards packaging design competition.
In each part of Grapur’s packaging, both design and sustainability meet. The cork and the labels are made of plastic otherwise destined for the ocean. The decoration process uses heat rather than aluminium to minimise waste. And at 300 grams, the bottle is ultra-light, retaining the classic Bordeaux style while reducing the carbon impact of both glass production and transportation. Even the cardboard boxes are made with 86% recycled materials. Packaging, however, is not the limit of Grapur’s sustainable credentials. The wines are made with organic grapes and are certified vegan, both ensuring that Grapur plays its part in protecting Italy’s rich biodiversity.
Moreover, the brand offers drinkers a lighter alternative, tapping into the growing market for no- and low-alcohol drinks. The wines sit at 9% ABV and contain 54 calories per 100 millilitres. This style is achieved without dealcoholisation, meaning that the wines retain the aromatic complexity of their raw materials, even in a lighter serve.

Constant development
The release continues an exciting period for Mack & Schühle Italia. The company, established in 2022 under the sole directorship of Fedele Angelillo, has developed rapidly from its origins as a family winery in 2011.
In 2025, the business reached a new market with the launch of its UK division. With a strong appetite for Italian wines in the country, this proved to be a canny strategic move.
“This market, one of the top five in the world for Italian wine exports, has always been a strategic outlet,” says Angelillo. “We are confident we can build a team capable of best interpreting the specificities of a complex yet extremely significant market like the British one.”
Last year also saw the launch of Genevitis, a project that advocates for Italian regional winemaking. By connecting cooperatives across six regions, international retailers, local designers and technical partners, Genevitis is ensuring value within the supply chain, while protecting Italy’s local winemaking heritage.
