Acker opens new fine wine merchant arm in Singapore

One of America’s oldest wine retailers and auction house, Acker, is strengthening its presence in Asia by opening a fine wine merchant in Singapore to cater for private sale and retail customers.

The company, which is headquartered in Delaware, already has dedicated sale hubs for its auctions in Hong Kong, Japan, South Korean, Mainland China and London and conducts auctions in Singapore, however Acker Wine Merchant in Singapore will expand the services beyond its auctions.

The new service will provide private clients and retail collectors in the city a curated selection of rare vintages and regional specialties, supported by more than US$20 million worth of curated stock, along with an advisory services on acquisition, collection building and investment. It will also partner with leading producers.

With this launch, Acker “reinforces its identity as the definitive leader in fine wine, committed to quality, authenticity and unparalleled client service on a global scale”, it said.

Acker’s Global CEO and co-owner Irvin Goldman said that by uniting the firm’s expertise in London, Hong Kong and the US, “we are uniquely positioned to serve the next generation of collectors across the world’s most dynamic markets.”

“We are launching a truly global service built on our legacy of excellence and deeply personal approach to client relationships,” he said.

Acker was established as a family-owned shop in New York City in 1820. It expanded its retail store operation in the 1990s to conduct independent, live auctions in New York City, later establishing sales in Hong Kong, Switzerland, and Singapore and now claims a 30% market share of fine wine auctions.
